Now tell my servant David.(1st Chronicles 17:7 NIVUK)

Listen to the words of God through Nathan the prophet.
Listen to the praise to God from the heart of David.
Listen to the ‘back story.’
This is a story that contains more than I can comprehend.

The rascal Jacob stole a blessing.
The rascal Jacob wrestled with God.
The rascal Jacob demanded to be blessed because the wrestling match ended in a ‘tie.’ Jacob the rascal neither won nor lost.

The rascal Jacob was touched in his hip as the sign that he was the one who wrestled.
Jacob’s name was changed by GOD.

Fast Forward to the 21st century.
There is a small slice of real estate on the Mediterranean Sea. It is a country named after one of the Fathers of its people.

It is not named after the rascal Jacob. It is not called the Land of Jacob.
God touched a man, who was willing to contend for what he believed, and for what he wanted.

Jacob put up a good fight and didn’t die (as he should have).

This prime real estate is named Israel. It is The Land of Israel. Israel was Jacob’s name, after. After Jacob dared to contend with GOD, he was given a different name.

GOD called Jacob, Israel.

Many call it the Promised Land, because it was promised by The Keeper of Promises.

Back story?
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (who became Israel), many ancestry ledgers, records and stories; human stories… and then?

King David.
A King who found favor in the eyes of his God.
A King who was promised that a greater King than he, would rule and rein on the throne of David one day.

A King will reign in Israel.

Wrestle with GOD.

”‘Now then, tell my servant David, “This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.“
